Every song on this album deserves to be on a list of the best songs of the year, so to save time I’m just advising that you go listen to the whole thing on Spotify. At a very low point this year, Spotify recommended the album to me. (Looking at the play count, I seem to be the only one. At the time of writing, most tracks are clocking in at <1000.)
This is glorious, uplifting, sincere, shouty, earnest folk rock with a saxophone. It reminds me of that first Lightspeed Champion album, which remains Dev Hynes’ greatest work.
Easily album of the year.

Faux Real - Boss Sweet
This is everything that pop music is supposed to be, except popular.
RMR - Rascal
At first the video looks like this is just a silly piss take of a country song, but it isn’t. It’s utterly beautiful and sincere.
James Blake - I Keep Calling
But an equally good case can be made for ‘Before’.
Gruff Rhys - Negative Vibes
Seems apt for 2020.
